I'm 18, and I live in Bessemer, Alabama. I regularly ride the bus to and from the downtown Birmingham area, and various other places in Jefferson County. Our county transit company, MAX Transit, has one central station in downtown Birmingham and routes all throughout Jefferson County. The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) has been struggling for years due to being underfunded. It is a lot of people's (including me) only form of transportation. I am participating in Voices for Public Transit because I believe every human deserves to be able to move throughout their own home, regardless of how poor, or disabled they are. And because I believe that well-funded, accessible public transportation should be available everywhere.
